“China Takes Aim at US Dollar”

There is an article in the Wall Street Journal titled “China Takes Aim at US Dollar” which says:

China called for the creation of a new currency to eventually replace the dollar as the world’s standard, thumb proposing a sweeping overhaul of global finance that reflects developing nations’ growing unhappiness with the U.S. role in the world economy.

The unusual proposal, advice made by central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan in an essay released Monday in Beijing, is part of China’s increasingly assertive approach to shaping the global response to the financial crisis.

Wall Street Journal

Now, I am very pro-globalization and I will say that the author seems to a be significantly uninformed about Esperanto, but ultimately something like this really needs to happen. It will really help to stabilize economies as well as breakdown the barriers between our nations and cultures. The Esperanto metaphor is rather appropriate, and at the same time Esperanto needs to be adopted as well for such similar reasons.

I think it is a great idea. The creation and use of the Euro shows that it can be done and it does work, but of course getting it started is reeeeeaaaallllly expensive, takes time, and will take countries giving up their pride and doing what’s best for the future of  their countries and the world. There is also those who support the idea of the Amero which would be the North American equivalent of the Euro used by Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

It will be in the US’ best interests to spearhead this as well as the adoption of Esperanto, because as you can see the cause for a change is here, not only in the reduction of use and teaching of English, but also in the worlds desire to not have their economies be dependent on the strength or weakness of the US economy. The world is slowly shifting away from American dependence and it is in our best interests to have a say in where it shifts to. Preferably not to another country’s court, but in a neutral non-national court that can help bring us closer together.

Times are a changing and so do we – Esperanto and a World Currency… Hoooo Aahhhh!!!

“Taken” (Review – B+)

I had only heard really good things about “Taken” starring Liam Neeson from friends and family since it came out and I finally took the moment to go see it.

My synopsis of the movie is:

Bryan (Liam Neeson) retired from his special forces position with the US government to spend more time with his 17 year old daughter, generic who lives with his ex-wife and her new rich husband. While the daughter is on a trip to to Paris, France she is abducted and the movie is set around his action packed and slightly vindictive hunt to return her to safety.

Liam’s calm, cool, and matter-of-fact demeanor makes him a great fit for this part. He has the dad look, as well as the cool to show himself as a professional soldier. His teary moments are a testament to his acting ability, the choreography and filming for the fight scenes was very well done. Most of the filming for the Bourne movies’ made me cranky. This was a bit better done and easier to see and appreciate who was getting their ass kicked and how.

All in all, I liked. Well worth the money.

Why Women Are Leaving Men for Other Women

I usually do not post about things like this, tooth but somehow I came upon this article on Oprah’s
‘O Magazine’ and found it interesting: Why Women Are Leaving Men for Other Women.

HBO Miniseries “John Adams” (Review – B)

I must preface this with: the ‘B’ rating only stands if you do not mind a slow drama (spread out through like 11 episodes on 3 CD’s) and if you have some knowledge and appreciation of the historical context, women’s health otherwise I would lower it to a ‘C’.

As of the last few years I have read some books on separation of church and state and have, vitamin in general, enjoyed revolutionary history, so my bias to start was towards liking this series.

I will say that the acting was moving and powerful, and the script was sloooow, but revealing of what John Adams and others of the time may have been going through, as well as getting to know the people as they may have been. I would enjoy more movies like this, not too often though, however, because it is quite long and slow, but it was a great learning experience. In particular I would like to see a series like this about Thomas Jefferson, who is one of the people from history that I would really like to meet.

If you are a US Revolution history buff, or a US Presidents or John Adams buff, I would pick it up otherwise…. you might want to wait until you are bored…. a lot.

Gene Therapies Or Genetic Filtering Of Our Reproductive Cells Is Going To Be Necessary

This post ends up being a kind of a follow up to ‘Monogamy and Medical Sciences Bypassing Advantages of Natural Selection‘.

First let me define Genetic Therapies and Genetic Filtering in the way that I will be using it in this post:

Genetic Therapies
I am referring to a branch of medicine in which we will be able to administer to people, capsule post birth, to genetically filter out/remove mutations, diseases, and other undesirable traits.
Genetic Filtering
Genetic filtering or screening of embryos or other reproductive cells to remove mutations, diseases, and other undesirable traits.

We have our medical sciences  extending our lives and allowing undesirable and genetically transferable diseases, mutations, and traits to continue on in our genetic pool that would normally, without the interference of technology, have been weeded out through natural selection. Because of this fact, I believe that gene therapies or  genetic filtering of our reproductive cells  is going to be necessary to strengthen and to ensure the survival of our species,  since evolution is going to be denied its ability to do its job well. We will, in some ways, have to act as evolution’s assistant since our medical sciences is running interference and allows traits that would normally die out to perpetuate.

Another really important advantage of using either gene therapies or genetic filtering is decreased health care costs, and an increase in the quality of life and our productive years.  Perhaps these are going to be the most important health care advances, because they are totally preventative based medicine and not response based medicine.
